Refund Policy

Last updated: August 2026

We want your report to be useful. Because each report reflects real computing cost the moment it's generated, refunds beyond the guarantee below are handled case-by-case rather than automatically — but we do want to hear from you if something went wrong.

Wrong-document guarantee

If you upload a document that isn't an HOA governing document, you are automatically refunded in full — no request needed. Our system checks the type of document as part of every analysis. If it determines what you uploaded isn't a CC&R, declaration, bylaws, rules and regulations, amendment, resolution, or similar HOA governing document, your payment is refunded automatically as part of that same report, and your report will explain what we found instead. Refunds typically appear on your statement within 5–10 business days. In the rare case the automatic refund itself fails, your report will say so and ask you to contact support with your payment confirmation — we'll process it manually right away.

When we'll consider a refund

  • The analysis failed to complete due to a technical error on our end (after using your included retry).
  • The report was clearly incomplete, garbled, or unrelated to the document you uploaded due to a system fault.
  • You were charged but never received any report at all.

How we check whether a report was successful

After each report, our system automatically records whether the analysis completed successfully, was cut short, hit an error, or triggered the wrong-document guarantee above — along with the approximate length of what was generated. We do not store your uploaded documents or the report's content itself, only this short completion status, kept for about 90 days. This lets us verify what actually happened for a given payment without ever needing to see what was in your documents. See our Privacy Policy for more on what we do and don't retain.

What's generally not eligible for a refund

  • Disagreement with how a court, attorney, or your HOA board interprets the same document — the Service reports what the document states, not a legal opinion.
  • Simply changing your mind after receiving a complete, accurate report.
  • A report our records show completed successfully. If our completion log confirms the analysis finished without error (and the wrong-document guarantee wasn't triggered), a refund request made on the grounds that "it didn't work" will generally not be granted, since we have a record showing otherwise.

How to request a refund

Email support@hoarulesexplained.com with the email address used at checkout (or your Stripe receipt) and a brief description of the issue. We review each request individually and will respond within a few business days.

Outside of the automatic guarantee above, refunds are considered at our discretion on a case-by-case basis. We aim to be fair — if the Service didn't work as intended, tell us.
